"Stand up, Armenia" demands resignation of Commission Chairman
“Stand up, Armenia” initiative, which is staging a sit-in in Yerevan’s Republic Square for already 7 days, is demanding the revocation of the decision on electricity price hike and resignation of the Public Services Regulatory Commission (PSRC), as the initiative members announced on Aug 1.

“Up to now, the PSRC has taken into consideration the interest of the demanding party in taking decisions; the people’s interest has always been subordinated,” the initiative council member Gagik Yeghiazaryan said, noting that they are also demanding to nationalize the Electric Networks of Armenia (ENA).

Referring to the Armenian PM’s statement, that the electricity price hike will be subsidized by the amount received from “Vorotan” Cascade, Yeghiazaryan said they are against the payment of foreign company debts by the amount received from the sale of a national company.

The decision on electricity price hike has entered into force starting from yesterday. PM Hovik Abrahamyan announced that the added 6,93 AMD will be subsidized from the extra-budgetary funds received from Vorotan Cascade sale.
